Almost fifty years ago, New Dawn’s work in the community first began with the acquisition, building, and provision of housing and commercial rentals. Today, New Dawn owns and operates commercial buildings, residential units, 28 units of Supported Housing for Individuals with Mental Illness (SHIMI), as well as an 8-bedroom supportive living home for youth at risk of homelessness between the ages of 16 and 25. Over the years, New Dawn’s buildings have provided housing and commercial space for thousands of families, individuals, and businesses.

Today, New Dawn is confident in, and proud of, the safety, aesthetic, and quality of our rental portfolio, as well as our ongoing management of these units, maintaining a near 100% occupancy. New Dawn has developed significant expertise in the operation of these units. The current housing environment in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) and beyond demands that New Dawn turn our attention to new development opportunities in a strategic, measured, and informed manner.

New Dawn is often at the forefront of change as we respond to emerging community needs, including in our built environment. Our aim with this page is to keep community informed and regularly updated on our current building projects over the lifetime of their design and development. We also seek to provide helpful resources that can educate and inform those in the community who may feel uncertain or have questions about the changes occurring. Please click on the buttons below for information on the current developments New Dawn is undertaking to bring additional commercial, community, and affordable housing spaces to Cape Breton. Once a development is completed, you can find information on that building under the appropriate “Residential” or “Commercial” tab on the menu on the left.
